Richard E. Engler Presents “New TSCA and Green Chemistry Innovation” at ACS Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference
Richard E. Engler, Ph.D., Director of Chemistry at The Acta Group (Acta®) and Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®), will present “New TSCA and Green Chemistry Innovation” in the “Real-World Sustainability Challenges: Incentives and Barriers to the Use of Green Chemistry in Products” session on June 18, 2018, at the 22nd Annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference (GC&E) hosted by the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute® that is being held June 18-20, 2018, in Portland, Oregon. ACS GC&E provides an opportunity for a diverse network of over 500 academic, industrial, and government stakeholders to network and learn about the newest ideas in sustainable approaches to chemistry, chemicals, processes, and products. This year’s conference theme is: “Product innovation using greener chemistries.”
Dr. Engler is one of the most widely recognized experts in the field of green chemistry and has been an active participant in ACS’ GC&E conference for many years, commencing during his two-decade tenure at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT). At OPPT, Dr. Engler served as a senior staff scientist and was the leader of EPA’s Green Chemistry Program which included administering the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards. He has participated in thousands of Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) substance reviews at EPA, as well as pre-notice and post-review meetings with submitters to resolve complex or difficult cases, and he draws upon this invaluable experience to assist companies as they develop and commercialize novel chemistries.
Dr. Engler writes and speaks frequently on the opportunities and challenges presented by regulatory frameworks for companies developing green and sustainable chemicals, products, and processes. Recent work includes:
