Jim Aidala Presents “FQPA 20 Years Later: The Evolution Of Science” At CropLife America Spring Conference

On April 14, 2016, James V. Aidala, Senior Government Affairs Consultant at Bergeson & Campbell, P.C., presented regarding the evolution of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) at the CropLife RISE Spring Conference in Arlington, Virginia. FQPA was created to amend the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). During “FQPA 20 Years Later: The Evolution of Science,” Mr. Aidala discussed the history and creation of FQPA from 1987, when the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) released the “Delaney Paradox” report, to the passage of FQPA in 1996, and the 1998 issuance of the “Gore Memo” clarifying FQPA implementation. Mr. Aidala also covered ongoing implementation issues, including a conversation around what is “uncertain enough to merit FQPA 10x (or 3x),” and changes to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency assessments and 10x criteria.  For a copy of James Aidala’s full presentation, email hlewis@lawbc.com.
