Recent changes in federal regulations include the Worker Protection Standards under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), which expand the requirements for protecting agricultural workers from pesticide exposure. Regulatory TSCA Virtual Workshop, August 11-13, 2020, via webinar

Join the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) and Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®), for a Virtual Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Hot Topics Regulatory Workshop. The workshop was held in two-hour interactive online sessions August 11-13, 2020, and presented by regulatory experts from B&C, including Managing Partner Lynn L. Bergeson, Director of Chemistry Richard Engler, Ph.D., and Senior Regulatory Consultant Kathleen Roberts. The workshop began with a review of TSCA and covered current hot topics including Significant New Use Rules (SNURs), the high-priority chemical risk evaluations and industry fees, Chemical Data Reporting (CDR), and more. Participants were able to ask questions of the presenters following each topic. At the end of the workshop, participants joined break-out rooms divided by topic to discuss what was learned and share their experiences.

"Understanding Pesticide Regulation and the 9th circuit Dicamba Decision," presented by the American Agricultural Law Association (AALA), provided an overview of pesticide regulation and registrations in the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the recent amended registrations for over-the-top (OTT) uses of dicamba, and the potential impacts of the recent 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision in National Family Farm Coalition v. TSCA: Three Years Later, Monday, June 24, 2019, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. EDT, Milken Institute School of Public Health, Washington, D.C.

The Environmental Law Institute (ELI), the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, and Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) held a one-day conference providing updates and insights regarding year three of the federal government’s implementation of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act that amended the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) on June 22, 2016.  Speakers provided an overview of the current state of TSCA implementation, ongoing and emerging issues, and related developments.  Afternoon breakout sessions invited all participants to discuss current law and policy issues.

This conference (in-person and webinar) was free and open to the public, but registration was required, at the ELI website.

Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. The 22nd Annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference (GC&E), hosted by the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute®, provided an opportunity for a diverse network of over 500 academic, industrial, and government stakeholders to network and learn about the newest ideas in sustainable approaches to chemistry, chemicals, processes, and products. Environmental Regulation 2018: Hot Topics, Regulatory Developments, and Practical Guidance for Corporate Compliance, hosted by the Practicing Law Institute (PLI), provided a comprehensive overview of recent developments in environmental regulation – and de-regulation – affecting compliance obligations for a range of businesses and organizations.  Among other topics, this program covered the impact of recent court decisions, new regulations, and enforcement initiatives on regulated entities, with an emphasis on providing practical suggestions for management of environmental risks and compliance obligations. Lynn L. Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) and Bloomberg BNA were pleased to present “FIFRA Hot Topics,” the second webinar in the 2018 Chemical Policy Summit Series. This complimentary, hour-long webinar featured Rick P. Keigwin, Jr., Director, Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP), Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Daniella Taveau, former International Trade Negotiator for EPA and now Regulatory and Global Trade Strategist, King & Spalding, and William L. Jordan, former senior toxics lawyer with EPA’s OPP and Office of General Counsel.  This timely and fascinating conversation was augmented by B&C Senior Government Affairs Consultant, James V. Aidala, and moderated by Lisa M. Campbell, Partner, B&C. 

Topics covered included OPP priorities and current FIFRA implementation issues,  ESA opportunities and challenges, the EPA OPP program budget and industry fee contributions (e.g., the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA)), registration review actions on glyphosate, neonicotinoid insecticides, pollinator protection, trade barriers, other globalization challenges, and more.
