Practising Law Institute’s one day, CLE eligible, Environmental Regulation 2019 program reviewed recent developments in environmental regulation – and de-regulation – affecting compliance obligations for a range of businesses and organizations. Program faculty covered the impact of recent court decisions, new regulations, and enforcement initiatives on regulated entities, with an emphasis on providing practical suggestions for management of environmental risks and compliance obligations. The life cycle of industrial, agricultural, and antimicrobial chemical products, especially those embedded in consumer products, has gained increasing public attention. Regulators are looking at the entire product lifecycle, including post-discard of product at the end of its useful life, as well as toxicity data. Lynn L. Bergeson, Managing Partner, Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®), presented chemical product regulations matters including risk communication, minimizing legal liability, and evolving policy matters.

The Environmental Law Institute (ELI), the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, and Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) held a one-day conference providing updates and insights regarding year three of the federal government’s implementation of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act that amended the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) on June 22, 2016. Speakers provided an overview of the current state of TSCA implementation, ongoing and emerging issues, and related developments. Afternoon breakout sessions invited all participants to discuss current law and policy issues.
This conference (in-person and webinar) was free and open to the public, but registration was required, at the ELI website.
The third annual Chemical Watch Expo was a two-day event for regulatory professionals from around the world to take part in practical, topical workshops and to seek their next service to help with chemical regulatory compliance throughout the supply chain. The 23rd Annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference (GC&E), hosted by the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute®, provided an opportunity for a diverse network of over 500 academic, industrial, and government stakeholders to network and learn about the newest ideas in sustainable approaches to chemistry, chemicals, processes, and products. The IBA Agricultural Law Section, supported by the ABA Section of Environment Energy and Resources, Committee on Pesticides, Chemical Regulation and Right-to-Know, the Environmental Law Institute and the National Agricultural Law Center, presented “Sustainable Investment in Agriculture,” with a focus on emerging legal issues in the area of sustainable and responsible investment in agriculture. Presenters discussed emerging tools and legal models for ensuring sustainable investment in agriculture, with a focus on the UNIDROIT initiative; due diligence for proposed investments; financial instruments; and where we go from here.
