The Environmental Law Institute (ELI) presents "Analyzing the EPA’s Proposal to List PFAS Chemicals as Hazardous Substances." Last year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a rule designating perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) as “hazardous substances” under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). This webinar will discuss what this designation will mean for products regulation and for Superfund sites. Lynn L. Bergeson, Managing Partner, Bergeson & Campbell P.C. (B&C®) will present.
This webinar reviewed how the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability is fundamentally reshaping the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and the Classification, Labeling and Packaging (CLP) regulations in ways that are resetting the global stage in terms of identifying new hazard classes and New Approach Methodologies (NAM) for identifying them. Watch now.
December 2022
When the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was enacted in 1976, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) focused its attention on chemical substances and chemical mixtures, while largely exempting the regulation of chemicals in “articles,” generally meaning finished products or manufactured goods. EPA’s more recent announcement of its intent to regulate chemicals in articles to a much greater extent has caught many in the regulated industries off guard and reflects a significant shift in U.S. chemical regulation policy. This change in policy affects all commercial entities that deal with a physical product, as they must now become familiar with the law, its requirements, and the chemical makeup of their finished goods. During this webinar, Richard E. Engler, Ph.D., Eve Gartner, and Lynn L. Bergeson discuss the policy changes that led to the regulation of articles, EPA’s authority to regulate these articles, and what companies need to know to stay in compliance. Watch now.
October 2022

In addition, the webinar included a look at the New Era of Smarter Food Safety, a 2020 initiative meant to enhance FSMA, and improve food safety outcomes by leveraging technology. Watch now.
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance is more than an aspiration, and realizing it in real time is not easy. A well-designed ESG strategy can achieve meaningful improvements in corporate performance and provide real value to stakeholders through specific commitments to corporate responsibility. Any such approach, however, must be measurable, transparent, and accountable. Experts from FTI Consulting, Christine DiBartolo and Ken Ditzel, and Lynn L. Bergeson presented on these issues during, “Environmental, Social, and Governance Issues: A Business Imperative.” Watch now.
August 2022

Cox, M.S., and Kristie Sullivan, MPH. The 2016 amendments to TSCA require EPA “to reduce and replace” vertebrate animals to the extent practicable, scientifically justified, and consistent with TSCA policies. EPA is also required to “develop a strategic plan to promote the development and implementation of alternative test methods and strategies to reduce, refine, or replace vertebrate animal testing and provide information of equivalent or better scientific quality and relevance for assessing risks of injury to health or the environment of chemical substances or mixtures.” Watch now.

A circular economy requires new thinking about what products we make, from which materials we make them, and where products go at the end of their useful life. An important but often overlooked aspect of new product development is an understanding of the consequences of the product’s chemical composition and the end-of-life implications of the decisions made at the front end of the process. Working within this framework plays a critical role in building a resilient, dependable, and sustainable system that fosters innovation to develop a circular economy. Register now to view the recording of Lynn L. Bergeson, Richard E. Engler, Ph.D., Kate Sellers, and Mathy Stanislaus as they present “Domestic Chemical Regulation and Achieving Circularity.”
April 2022
With year one of the Biden Administration’s term in the history books, we have a clearer sense of how the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proceeding on all fronts. EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) focuses on long-standing challenges, especially a renewed effort to meet Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultation requirements and determine how best to meet core pesticide registration review obligations in 2022. These program priorities must reflect special considerations for environmental justice and climate change, advance critical science and policy issues, develop a fifth Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) implementation framework, and display a renewed commitment to working collaboratively with state partners and other stakeholders to implement the program.
Register now to watch Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) present "FIFRA Hot Topics," a complimentary webinar covering key OPP priorities and what companies should know to avoid market delays.
