Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. Adds Senior Government Affairs Counsel, John H. Thorne, Ph.D., to Its Public Policy Practice

Thorne, Ph.D., has joined our public policy practice as Senior Government Affairs Counsel for B&C and Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs for Acta. Dr. Thorne is a leader in the areas of agricultural and pesticide industries, and brings extensive experience with related regulatory, legislative, and policy issues. He has represented a wide range of clients, including agribusinesses, trade associations, and legislative and policy coalitions, on political and technical issues related to the environment, bioenergy, sustainability, food processing, and agricultural policy. His areas of expertise include water and air environmental policy; pesticide and fertilizer use policy; food production and processing; biomass crop and bioenergy policy; livestock regulatory issues; toxic science and regulatory issues; sustainable agriculture policy; and nonprofit and coalition management.

“Dr. Thorne has a track record of making a difference for clients because of his extensive experience working with regulatory agencies and those in Congress who make agricultural and pesticide policy. He has extensive experience in public policy and agribusiness, having worked in politics for nearly 20 years, and in agribusiness (pesticides, seeds, research management) prior to coming to Washington, D.C. “I am delighted to be joining a group of professionals of the stature of B&C and Acta, who are widely recognized as leaders in chemical and pesticide policy matters,” said Dr. Thorne.

Dr. Thorne holds an undergraduate degree in agronomy from Washington State University and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Purdue University. Most recently, Dr. Thorne was a senior policy advisor in the Washington, D.C. office of Crowell & Moring LLP., and from 1993 to 2004 was managing director of Capitolink, LLC.
