Richard E. Engler, Ph.D. Named Director of Chemistry of The Acta Group and Bergeson & Campbell, P.C.
The Acta Group (Acta®) and Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) are pleased to announce that Richard E. Engler, Ph.D. has been named Director of Chemistry for our firms. Dr. Engler joined Acta and B&C as Senior Chemist in January 2015 after nearly two decades at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) and has offered his extensive understanding of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and other regulatory frameworks to assist clients as they develop and commercialize novel chemistries.
As Director of Chemistry, Dr. Engler will continue applying his significant scientific skill in resolving complex or difficult regulatory challenges while ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency across our expanding and unrivaled team of experienced regulatory chemists. Our team includes Oscar Hernandez, Ph.D., former Director of the Risk Assessment Division (RAD) of OPPT; organic chemists Joseph Plamondon, Ph.D., and David Peveler, Ph.D., who have spent decades consulting with chemical companies on a broad range of regulatory issues.; analytic chemist Scott Burya, Ph.D., formerly a Director of Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs for AkzoNobel; and Molly Blessing, Assistant Regulatory Chemist and Masters of International Affairs candidate (Columbia University).
Dr. Engler holds a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from the University of California, San Diego, and taught classes in organic chemistry there and at the University of San Diego prior to joining EPA as Senior Staff Scientist at OPPT. Dr. Engler is one of the most widely recognized experts in the field of green chemistry and was leader of EPA’s Green Chemistry Program.
