Third Annual AFCC Global Biobased Economy Conference Will Be Held November 12-14, 2023

The third annual Alternative Fuels & Chemicals Coalition (AFCC) Global Biobased Economy Conference will be held November 12-14, 2023, in Washington, D.C. AFCC states that attendees will learn about the necessary factors to successful commercialization and decarbonization in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), alternative fuels, renewable chemicals (includes bioplastics), biomaterials, food ingredients and additives, flavors and fragrances, alternative proteins, and regenerative agriculture. The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) announced on October 26, 2023, that Jeff Marootian, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, DOE Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE), will speak at the Lunch Plenary Session, Potential SAF Commercialization Gaps and Solutions, on November 14, 2023. Dr. Valerie Sarisky-Reed, Director, BETO, will moderate a Federal Agencies Briefing: “Executive Order 14081 to Promote Industrial Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing,” on November 12, 2023. Technical and subject matter experts representing EERE will also participate, including:

  • Track 2, Session 3: “Technology Readiness and Scaling SAF” will be moderated by Zia Haq, Senior Lead Analyst, Data, Modeling and Analysis, BETO;
  • Track 2, Session 4: “Using Forest Feedstock under the Renewable Fuel Standard to Mitigate Catastrophic Wildfires, Improve Forest Health, and Energize the Economy” will feature Dr. Valerie Sarisky-Reed as a speaker;
  • Track 5, Session 6: “Lab Embedded Entrepreneur Programs Advancing the Bioeconomy” will feature Dr. Diana Bauer, Deputy Director, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO); and
  • Workshop: “Diversity of Feedstocks to Meet SAF and Renewable Chemicals Goals” will be moderated by Dr. Mark P. Elless, Technology Manager, Renewable Carbon Resources, BETO.
